Crafting Futures
Project type
Academic & individual
Date
August 2024 - November 2024
Location
Greyton, Western Cape, South Africa
The project reimagines Greyton's tourism-driven economy, which benefits affluent urbanites while marginalizing residents. By integrating makerspaces, digital infrastructure, and civic gathering spaces, the project creates inclusive environments that empower small businesses, foster entrepreneurship, and enhance digital access. Situated at a key site connecting Heuwelkroon and Greyton, it leverages movement, accessibility, and community collaboration to bridge economic and spatial divides. Drawing inspiration from global and local mobile economies, such as China’s Taobao and South Africa’s Yebo Fresh, Crafting Futures envisions a flexible, sustainable system that connects communities and fosters equitable access to opportunities. This initiative aims to catalyse integration and economic inclusion, crafting a more inclusive future for all.
